The McCaden family, the descendants of Benjamin and Mamie McCaden, is a fairly far-flung clan (from Washington state to Maryland, Pennsylvania to Arizona). That distance might partly explain the lack of communication among many of the family. I say "partly" because the core of the family is still in Maryland, including the last remaining of Ben and Mamies children, my dad, Roland Reid McCaden, Sr. Dad will be 90 years old in February 2006.
The purpose of McCaden.Web is to help condense some of that separation between us and to provide a central site for family members to share information, news, updates, pictures, "shout-outs" and pretty much anything you like.
I've posted a sort of "family tree" (my sincere thanks to Pam Tucker) on the Family Outline page. There you'll find the line that began with Benjamin and Mamie. You'll also find a lot of question marks. This is where I hope to get some help from family members who can bring me up-to-date on siblings, children, spouses and any other information that will help complete the "tree".
I encourage everyone to send me copies of pictures to add to the site. Old, grainy black and whites are as welcome as current photos. If you have a scanner or digital camera and you know how to upload pictures to a photo site, you can send me the link to the site. If you prefer to send the pictures (or copies) to me, I'll post them to the photo page.
Please keep in mind that McCaden.web is a work-in-progress. If enough of the family is interested I would like to eventually expand it to include a real-time chat room and possibly video-cam capability. I'm also thinking about setting the site up as members only so we could perhaps share personal family information that non-members wouldn't have access to to.
So please, let me know what you think. I want to hear recommendations, suggestions, ideas, comments. I want to know if you think this is a good idea or not.
